Wreath laying ceremony at the Saint-Genevieve-de-Bois Cemetery on the occasion of the Diplomat's Day (8 February 2024)

On 8 February 2024, on the eve of the Diplomatic Worker's Day, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to UNESCO, H.E.Mr. Rinat Alyautdinov, and members of the Permanent Delegation honored the memory of the prominent Soviet diplomat and scientist Semen Tangyan, whose ashes rest in the Russian cemetery at Sainte-Geneviève-des-Bois  in France.

Semen Tangyan (1926-2020) made a great contribution to the development of cooperation between Russia and UNESCO. His activity was closely connected to this world humanitarian organization for 35 years.

In 1975-1987 he was UNESCO's Assistant Director General for Education, and in 1992-2000 he was UNESCO Director General's advisor. He supervised more than 30 major socio-economic studies in the field of education around the world and in different regions, which formed the basis of documents considered at conferences of Ministers of Education and other intergovernmental meetings. Semen Tangyan was the author and co-author of about 100 research papers in the field of education and pedagogy.
